The heart of our community
We're proud to be at
the heart of a thriving
community with our
roots firmly grounded in
Gateshead.
We believe in helping local
people to secure a better future
for themselves and their families.
It was a privilege to be there
and speak to the Prime Minister.
During your time at college you'll
be encouraged to get involved in
supporting charities and projects
within our local community. This
might be something you take on
yourself or a team effort with the
rest of your class.
Making a difference
We know our students care
about the society they live in
and together we can help make
a difference and make it a
better place to live and work for
everyone.
You’ll have the opportunity to get
involved and make a difference
in our community supporting
charities and voluntary
organisations including Save the
Children, British Heart Foundation,
Gateshead Foodbank, FACT,
Comic Relief and Macmillan
Cancer Support.
Policing student Tom Jackson
helped run a project to source
and donate free school uniforms
to 200 families in Gateshead
as part of a National Citizen
Service (NCS) scheme.
He was chosen as one of the
nation’s Coronation Champions
as part of an official Coronation
project organised by the
Royal Voluntary Service.
As a Coronation Champion Tom,
19, received a specially designed,
official Coronation Champions
pin and a certificate signed by His
Majesty The King and Her Majesty
The Queen. Tom also attended
a garden party at Buckingham
Palace alongside The King and
members of the Royal Family.
Tom said: “Words cannot
describe how joyous and proud
I am to have won a Coronation
award. It’s such an honour to
be representing NCS and just
amazing to see how much of
an impact my project had.

It helped hundreds of people and
this award wouldn’t have been
possible without the help of my
team and my community. NCS
has played such a huge part in my
journey in life and I am so proud of
the work we have accomplished.”
