Nothing screams the holidays more than shopping! But
instead of heading to the mall, head downtown and support
artisans and crafters. December 3 through 9 is Recipe
Greetings for The Holidays Week and the perfect time to take advantage
of the 22nd Annual Downtown Delray Beach Art Festival
on 4th. This annual juried art festival of hand-crafted artwork including
glass, photography, painting, mixed media, fiber, jewelry
and much more, hosts hundreds of artists exhibiting and selling
their work in an outdoor gallery. Come browse original arts and
fine crafts from more than 100 exhibitors. You’ll be sure to find
something unique for everyone on your holiday gift list! The show
starts at the entrance of East Atlantic Ave and Northeast Fourth
Avenue in the heart of Downtown Delray Beach. The show proceeds
north on Northeast Fourth Avenue for two full blocks, and
well as east on Northeast Second Street to Southeast Fifth Avenue,
so there is a ton of block-shopping opportunity to be had. The festival
is held Saturday, December 3 and Sunday, December 4 from
10am to 5pm and admission is free. Visit www.artfestival.com or
call (561) 746-6615 for more information.
Sweet, savory, small or large, there’s no wrong way to eat a
cookie. Good thing you don’t have to! Sunday, December 4
is National Cookie Day, and you can either indulge in this
decadent holiday with your apron and oven, or you can call up
the professionals at Two Fat Cookies and let them get their hands
dirty. They sell their bite-sized cookies by the pound in a box, or
gift-wrapped platters size small, medium, large and jumbo, and
assortments vary on the day. Not only do they offer your traditional
bakeshop cookies such as chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin,
but they also make old family recipes and new recipes that they
invented based on what they thought we couldn’t resist! Think
Corny Cookie, a corn kernel cookie that tastes like cornbread or
Captain Crunch, or a Fiesta Cookie, a sugar sprinkle cookie sandwich
filled with cake batter buttercream and rolled in crunchy
rainbow sprinkles, or even a WTF, which is layers of White Chocolate
Macadamia Cookie, Golden Oreos, and Blondie with Heath
Crunch on top. Yeah, they’re pretty serious about their cookies, so
you might want to get a mix and see what all the fuss is about.
Two Fat Cookies is located at 32 S.E. Second Ave. Visit www.twofatcookies.com
or call (561) 265-5350 for more information.
December is Give the Gift of Sight Month so let’s share that
gift with everyone and open our eyes to all of the local blackowned
businesses in the community! You don’t have to go
far as the Blackmer’s Market has everything you need in a fun and
engaging one-stop-shop event. Held the third Sunday of the month
at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, the Market features games,
music, clothing, accessories, body care products and more, all from
local black-owned businesses, all at The Set. The Set is a community
that honor’s Black History and cultures of the people of the African
Diaspora, so there will be no shortage of learning and enjoyment.
This free event not only offers you fun, food and a chance to connect
with your community, but you can also score yourself some amazing
finds on your holiday shopping list! The Spady Cultural Heritage
Museum is dedicated to discovering, collecting and sharing the African
American history and heritage of Palm Beach County, and does
so by bringing people together! The Market is held from 11am to
4pm at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, located at 170 N.W.
Fifth Ave. Visit www.thepeachumbrella.com or call (561) 270-5487
