IS WHEAT THE FOOD THAT MAKES US ILL?
Martin Lewis, Kinesiologist
Epigenetic factors in health and healing
What we eat and what we are exposed to in our
environment (and that includes how we treat ourselves
and are treated by others) directly affects our DNA and its
expression. These ‘epigenetic factors' create, and are
influenced by the presence or absence of key nutrients in
the diet, as well as exposures to chemicals, pathogens,
emotional and energetic stress and other environmental
influences.
Despite common misconceptions, so-called ‘genetic’
diseases, are exceedingly rare. The ‘holy grail’ of biology
has now been well and truly usurped by the new paradigm
that states that epigenetic factors (literally: ‘beyond the
control of the gene’) are primary in determining how DNA
is interpreted, translated and expressed as illness and disease
in the body. It is probable that only 1% of all dis-ease
can be labelled as ‘true genetic inheritance’. Hence it is no
longer accurate to say that our genes ‘cause’ dis-ease.
Within the scope of this new perspective, even classical
monogenic dis-eases like cystic fibrosis (CF) can be
reversed. In CF many of the adverse changes that result
from the defective expression has been shown to undergo
partial or full correction (in the rodent model) when
exposed to the phytochemicals found in turmeric, cayenne
pepper, and soya.
However, it is true that we do inherit traits from our family
line, on an energetic level, and these inherited traits can and
do indeed cause energy imbalances in the body, which may
cause dis-ease to manifest.
Emotional distress and subsequent nutritional deficiencies
of minerals and vitamins in the womb, or early in life, may
also ‘trigger' the faulty expression or folding patterns of
genes, which might otherwise have avoided epigenetic
activation.
The implications of these findings are rather remarkable, in
that epigenetic and not genetic factors are primary in
determining disease outcome. In general, it is inaccurate to
blame our DNA for causing disease. Rather, it appears to
have more to do with what we choose to expose our DNA
to, our diet being a significant factor.
WHEAT - THE FOOD THAT
'GENETICALLY MODIFIES’ US?
In western civilisation, wheat is the most common grain in
most people's diets. Not only does it have addictive
qualities (it literally ‘satisfies and fulfils us’), but it also
promotes weight gain, and can cause ‘wheat intolerance’.
