Municipal Public Library in co-operation with the
German Institute of Librarianship and the German
Embassy in Moldova. The seminar was held at the
Onisifor Ghibu Public Library, April 25-30, 1999
Thirty-five librarians from central, university and
public libraries from county centres participated at the
seminar, facilitated by a team of 5 German experts, led
by Elisabeth SIMON, international expert, director of
International Relations Office of the German Institute
of Librarianship.

Vadim SOBOLEV, Expert of EBSCO Subscription
Agency, who provided the seminar participants with all
the electronic databases of EIFL Direct Project, conducted
the training session. Thirty librarians from central,
university and public libraries participated at this training.

English Language Courses for Librarians
This pilot project offered librarians the possibility
to study English and to learn the specialised terminology
in order to pass tests for participating at various fellowship
programs, training workshops and major international
events. The program was initiated at the
beginning of 1998 in collaboration with NLP, OSI
Budapest.
Out of 25 librarians that took these courses 20
passed the promotion tests successfully and got documents
certifying it.
The general courses of English, as well as the special
course on library terminology were developed and
organised by the Pro Didactica Educational Centre.
The program will continue with English courses
organised for librarians from the A.Russo State
University Library in Bãlfli, public libraries and educational
institutions from Bãlfli.

Library Automation Program
1999 ACTIVITY REPORT
The program aims at library automation by supporting
projects on creating local automated networks
that will enable library connection into a national automated
library system, as well as the connection of all
the functioning local networks to Internet. Library
automation ensures that Moldovan libraries will meet
the requirements of modern information technologies
in order to provide a quick and efficient access of the
users to the information and to facilitate their integration
into international informational space.
The program supported:
– automation of university and scientific libraries
– projects of establishing local information networks
of libraries from regional centres in order to
develop a new important aspect of the library activity –
the creation of Information and Documentation Centres
for community service
The financial support is matched on a 50/50 basis
with NLP OSI Budapest.
