Support for Young Directors
The purpose of the program is to raise the interest
of actors and directors for directing as a fundamental
component of theatrical art. It aims to support projects
related to theatre performances of different genres.
Four projects on theatre performances’ directing
participated in the contest and three of them were
granted financial support:

Infrastructure Development
This program focuses on supporting projects aimed
at maximum diversification of cultural phenomena,
development of new cultural institutions (associations,
art centers, literary clubs etc.), capable to develop their
activity in the framework of open society and market
economy. One of the main purposes of the Infrastructure
Development program is to facilitate the information
exchange and networking of these new structures
with international cultural and art centers that could
become partners in project development and organization
of the artistic and cultural activity.
In the framework of the program support was
offered to modernize the equipment resources of the
Electro- acoustic Music Studio, as a component of the
project related to the organization of a music workshop
conducted by Christian CLOISIER between April 12-20,
1999 in Chiøinæu.

Unlimited Music Association was given an institutional
support grant to purchase equipment, pay for
the Internet services and create a web-site.

Teaching Material Acquisition
1999 ACTIVITY REPORT
The Foundation supports the creation and expanding
of art libraries, video, audio and slides technical
base necessary both for cultural and artistic education
and as a resource for professionals.
A project developed by Vladimir AXIONOV, Ph.D.,
vice-rector of the State University of Arts, was supported.
The aim of the project was to ensure the efficient
activity of the University’s Media Studio in order to
develop the teaching, learning and creative processes of
the four art schools, 27 chairs of the University, as well
as other affiliated art studying institutions (music and
fine arts high schools, art colleges etc.). The project
aims to improve the technical and teaching materials
base of the media studio.

Contests and Festivals
The Foundation offers assistance to artistic professionals
for their participation at national and international
competitions. In 1999 a new initiative: Soros
Foundation Moldova Scholarships in Arts was
launched.
Contest of young interpreters (fifth edition) hosted
by the Ciprian Porumbescu Lyceum, project director Verginia
GOSCINA, vice-director of the school, June 21-26,

The purpose of the project Soros Foundation
Moldova Scholarships in Arts was to foster artists’ creative
work of great value. 74 artists participated in the
competition and 11 of them won a 1,200 USD scholarship
in the following art areas:
