ARTS AND CULTURE
In 1999 the Arts and Culture Programs of the
Foundation supported projects in theatrical arts, literature,
new experimental music, contemporary choreography
and dance, and visual arts. Projects regarding the
development of cultural and artistic management, arts
education, and modernization of teaching materials
resources of the State University of Arts were given special
consideration.
Cultural Journals and Literature Support
The Soros Foundation granted support to projects
of a significant public interest initiated by the cultural
journals’ staff.
Within the Three Literary Debuts program, the goal
of which is to launch new names in literature, 23
young authors participated by presenting 17 poems, 2
works in prose, 4 history and literary reviews. The winners
of the competition are:

Publishing of the bilingual Romanian-English collection
of National Drama by Moldovan authors comprising
an introductory overview of Basarabia’s drama
between 1994-1999.

Estonian culture, social and political life to Moldovan
readers.
Contrafort Journal

called: Postmodernism – a New (Old) Literary Movement

planet will be celebrating the two millenniums of

Training in the Performing Arts
The Training in the Performing Arts program
involves the development of training courses, masterclasses,
studios, etc., with the invitation of experts,
artists, and professors from abroad. It is the largest
program in the performing arts area. A number of projects
have been supported in collaboration with the OSI
Budapest Performing Arts Network Program:

Workshop: Ways of International Cooperation of
Theatre Critics, project director Irina NECHIT, theatre
critic, held with the participation of Chantal BOIRON, a
famous literary critic from France. The grant was
administrated by the Coliseum Arts Center.
