On the Reykjanes Peninsula, in the center of an
800-year-old volcanic plain, sits the geothermal
spa known as Blue Lagoon. It was designated
one of the seven natural wonders of the world by
the National Geographic Traveler and is the most
visited place in Iceland. The design of the retreat
aims to take advantage of the lagoon’s natural
beauty and minimise the building’s impact on its
surroundings. A thorough analysis of the cracks
and fissures that form this volcanic landscape
