Head: Sayadaw Dr. Nandamalabhivamsa. The Ven. is an outstand<strong>in</strong>g Pali and<br />

Abhidhamma scholar and excellent specialist on Tiptaka. He is considered a world<br />

specialist <strong>in</strong> the field of Buddhist studies.<br />

Location: The center for Buddhist studies, which is currently under construction, is<br />

directly beh<strong>in</strong>d the monastery of the Ven. Dr. Nandamalabhivamsa <strong>in</strong> a very quiet<br />

sett<strong>in</strong>g, surrounded by pagodas and few monasteries.<br />

Primary goal of the center is to offer foreigners a quiet spot for (<strong>in</strong>dividual) studies of<br />

Pali writ<strong>in</strong>gs (Tipitaka) and the practice of the learned.<br />

There will be simple but functional quarters with bath and toilet. The center is<br />

currently build<strong>in</strong>g up a library with a large spectrum of Buddhist literature for<br />

reference. On demand, Sayadaw Dr. Nandamalabhivamsa will organise lessons <strong>in</strong><br />

Suttas, Pali, Abhidhamma and adjo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g commentaries.<br />

The center will also support research for dissertations <strong>in</strong> the field of Buddhist studies.<br />

Those <strong>in</strong>terested can call Sayadaw directly (telephone see above).<br />

The second goal of the center is to publish essential summaries of Suttas or<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividual aspects of the Dhamma as brochures <strong>in</strong> several languages and make it<br />

available to Buddhist groups <strong>in</strong> the West. This <strong>in</strong>cludes the translation of known texts<br />

on demand.<br />

Subjects: Abhidhamma, Pali, Suttas, the entire spectrum of Buddhist studies.<br />

Courses: Anytime depend<strong>in</strong>g on demand.<br />

Location: 10 m<strong>in</strong>utes from town center (Saga<strong>in</strong>g) and the shopp<strong>in</strong>g district. Around<br />

the center, which is quietly situated between three other monasteries, there are many<br />

pagodas. The center is very green with fruit trees and organic vegetable subsistence<br />

farm<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

How to get there: From Yangon take the direct night bus to Mandalay or Saga<strong>in</strong>g<br />

city (there is only one l<strong>in</strong>e). Trip is about 16 h (without breakdowns!) and costs about<br />

US$ 5.<br />

The tra<strong>in</strong> is rather expensive for foreigners (around US$ 35). Burmese pay only<br />
