<strong>Meditation</strong> technique: <strong>Meditation</strong> on Shamatha, Vipassana and Mahamudra <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Mahayana and Vajrayana tradition.<br />

Spiritual head: His Em<strong>in</strong>ence Jamgon Kongtrul R<strong>in</strong>poche. H.E. Jamgon Kongtrul<br />

R<strong>in</strong>poche is one of the l<strong>in</strong>eage holders of His Hol<strong>in</strong>ess the Karmapa whose 17th<br />

<strong>in</strong>carnation is the Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Tr<strong>in</strong>ley Dorje.<br />

Teachers and course guidance: Drupon Khenpo Lodro Namgyal, Khenpo Chokey<br />

Gyaltsen.<br />

Language: English, Tibetan.<br />

Duration of courses and dates: The retreat facilities at the Rigpe Dorje Institute are<br />

open throughout the year to engaged Buddhists for study and meditation. Interviews<br />

with lamas and qualified teachers <strong>in</strong> residence for guidance <strong>in</strong> study and practice can<br />

be arranged.<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g the w<strong>in</strong>ter and spr<strong>in</strong>g seasons –- from January to March – teach<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />

meditation programmes are offered, conducted by Drupon Khenpo Lodro Namgyal<br />

and other teachers. Classes on Tibetan language and Buddhist scriptures are also<br />

offered.<br />

W<strong>in</strong>ter Retreat Programme: 2 months, January and February;<br />

Spr<strong>in</strong>g Retreat Programme: 2 to 3 weeks, March<br />

Accommodation: S<strong>in</strong>gle and double rooms, with private or common bathrooms, are<br />

available. Bedd<strong>in</strong>gs and l<strong>in</strong>ens are provided. Students are advised to br<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

torchlight, hot water flask, and <strong>in</strong> w<strong>in</strong>ter a warm sleep<strong>in</strong>g bag and a hot water bottle.<br />

The meals are vegetarian. Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g water is boiled and filtered.<br />

Medical: Kathmandu has good medical and diagnostic facilities. Besides numerous<br />

cl<strong>in</strong>ics there are also private hospitals and Tibetan and Ayurvedic medical treatments<br />

available. The nearest medical facility to the Institute is the University Teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Hospital, 30 m<strong>in</strong>utes walk and 10 m<strong>in</strong>utes by car away.<br />

Rates (per day): S<strong>in</strong>gle Room US$ 8, s<strong>in</strong>gle room with attached bathroom US$ 12,<br />

double room US$ 12, double room with attached bathroom US$ 20. The room rates<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude three vegetarian meals, morn<strong>in</strong>g and afternoon teas, bedd<strong>in</strong>gs, l<strong>in</strong>ens and<br />

hot water showers from November to May.<br />

Tibetan classes: For beg<strong>in</strong>ners and advanced. M<strong>in</strong>imum enrolment is 1 month.<br />

Rates: US$ 50 for one month, US$ 100 for two months.<br />
