MERCEDES eACTROS 600

For the model’s history and for what the
eActros in particular represents and means,
not only to Mercedes, the launch
of the battery-powered ‘600’, the first truck
expressly designed and built for long-haul
transport, would have deserved a more prestigious
setting than the Break autohof Hamburg
Nordheide, the albeit very modern and somewhat
unique service area (equipped, among
other things, with a freeflow parking system
for trucks with reservation facilities, a multienergy
point, three-star hotel, stores, lounge
area, and even a brewery). The service area
is located in Egestorf, a small municipality in
Lower Saxony, about half an hour’s drive south
of Hamburg on the A7 route.
Conversely, the very decision of the company’s
top management to raise the curtain
on their much-anticipated zero-emission road
flagship in this location that makes utmost
sustainability its pride, should be understood
as a desire to immediately drop into the road
and daily use a heavyweight truck that, in the
words of Karin Radström, Ceo of Mercedes-
Benz Trucks, “like no other Mercedes’s truck
before, represents the transformation of road
freight transport toward carbon neutrality”.
Design first
Another turning point, but this time it is even
more important than what the Actros has been
able to do in its nearly 30 years of file, always
under the banner of hi-tech and elegance and
with the ambition, looking at contents, to set itself
as a genuine benchmark. With the eActros
600, Mercedes now looks even further ahead,
to the future precisely, intending to redefine
the standards of freight transport in terms of
technology, sustainability and design.
The e-truck sales will begin no earlier than
2025, since the eActros will not enter series
production in Wörth until the end of next year,
after the first fifty or so units are built, some of
which will be tested in daily use by customers
themselves.
