Kempower will soon introduce Megawatt Charging System (MCS)
for electric trucks and electric vehicles using power above one megawatt. The
Finnish company’s new charging solution is based on their existing technology,
including Kempower’s high power satellite with MCS liquid cooled charging
plug and two 600 kW Kempower Power Units. The manufacturer will begin
deliveries of the new Kempower Megawatt Charging System in Europe during
the first quarter of 2024. The total power of the first delivered Kempower MCS
solution delivery will be 1.2 megawatts. “We are a key part of the critical growth
of the electrification of trucks and heavy-duty transportation. Electric trucks are
gaining traction as a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel trucks. Traditional
heavy-duty trucks account for more than 25 percent of the total CO 2
emissions
from road transport. So, it’s clear that transitioning truck fleets to electric will
have a major impact on climate change mitigation”, said Jussi Vanhanen, Chief
Market Officer at Kempower.
CHARGING PARTNERSHIP
Scania and ABB E-mobility announced
the signing of a global framework
agreement in the field of charging
solutions. The agreement enables Scania
to become a full solution provider for
their EV customers, offering a tailored
charging solution together with electric
vehicles. Scania will provide both its
own network and its customers with
ABB E-mobility‘s DC fast charging
technology and solutions, including Terra
360, one of the fastest all-in-one electric
vehicle chargers. ABB E-mobility will
provide Scania with its wide range of
DC charging solutions for home depot
charging, destination charging and public
charging. Earlier this year, ABB E-mobility
and Scania announced a successful
first test in development of a megawatt
charging system (MCS). “With access
to the full breadth of our DC charging
portfolio, we are ensuring that Scania
can recommend the most appropriate
solution for every use case, helping their
customers successfully transition to
electric”, said Chris Nordh, Head of Fleet
& Transit Business at ABB E-mobility.
