Corporate Connecting the Planet Sustainability in the spirit of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs for short, is increasingly permeating the entire R&M Group. This is documented in the R&M Sustainability Report 2023. For the first time, the expanded and restructured report is based on a double materiality analysis. What does sustainability mean for R&M? In recent months, the people in charge at the company have been dealing with that question more intensively than ever before. The aim was to further develop the sustainability strategy defined in 2021 and anchor it more deeply in the R&M Group. The «Connecting the Planet» program brings together all the answers. It links the sustainability strategy even more closely with the corporate mission «Connectivity that matters». «Connecting the Planet» describes how R&M wants to network people and organizations responsibly while conserving resources. At its core, it is about the service portfolio and offering: infrastructure solutions for data and communications networks. But from a holistic perspective, it’s about much more. The four defined spheres of activity relate to people and social commitment, environment and climate, ethics and compliance, and circularity in the value-added chain. With its business activities, R&M actively contributes to ensuring that, among others, the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals have a greater impact. Network of ambassadors Sustainability ambassadors have formed a global network within the R&M Group since the end of 2023. They support local CSER measures and discuss successes. At the same time, they act as multipliers in order to anchor R&M’s sustainability strategy more deeply in the teams and to establish it more firmly outside the company. One major task was to draw up what is called a dual materiality analysis for the first time. This analysis identifies opportunities and risks for companies, people and the environment, weighting them more precisely. Up until that point, CSER-relevant opportunities and risks had been assessed by a panel of experts. But now, numerous relevant internal and external stakeholder groups were involved in a survey. Sustainability topics categorized in advance were considered from two perspectives: Both the perspective of how great an impact people see R&M having on the environment, society and governance, as well as the opposite perspective of how great an impact people see the environment, society and governance having on R&M. With the results of the materiality analysis, R&M is hoping for more effective planning of sustainability goals and measures as well as a stronger focus on the most relevant topics.
