every patient bed there are interfaces to the
communications, clinic and data network.
Analysis devices, life-sustaining machines and
surgical robots now only work in a network.
In March 2024, the Insel Group introduced
a new clinic information and control system
that sets new standards and decisively advances
digital medicine. Epic’s fully integrated
all-in-one solution has replaced some fifty
systems and connects the entire Insel Group
across disciplines and professions.
Digitized construction
The heart of digital hospital operations is a
data center in the basement of the new building.
Insel Gruppe AG and the general planner
had looked for an overall, easily integrable,
all-in-one solution in the data center.
Like other modules, it had to be possible to
integrate the data center into the design at
the click of a mouse, as the construction project
was primarily developed and controlled
digitally.
R&M approach convincing
The approach of the integrated data center
solution from R&M was convincing thanks
to the technically sophisticated documentation
down to the last detail. The all-in-one
solution from R&M includes a raised floor
construction, defined pre-assembled server
racks, intelligent connector strips (PDUs),
six cold aisle enclosures, busbars, specified
FO and copper cabling including raceway
channel and top-of-rack cabling.
Bern University Hospital
As a university hospital, the Inselspital plays
an important role in the Swiss healthcare
system. It is a center of medical expertise,
high-tech and knowledge with a good
reputation internationally. As owner and
operator, the Inselspital Foundation dates
back to its founding in 1354.
The University Hospital clinics offer highly
specialized tertiary medical services,
including transplantation medicine, with a
pronounced interdisciplinarity. Each year,
they attend to around 59,000 inpatients and
920,000 outpatients. With around 11,000
employees, the University Hospital is one of
the largest employers in the region.
Together with the electrical planning engineer
Bering AG, R&M was able to incorporate
specific knowledge from numerous previous
data center projects into the design phase.
The R&M service team designed and coordinated
the complex project with a wealth of
experience and know-how.
At the heart of Insel Gruppe AG’s infrastructure
development is the Anna Seiler building, which
opened in September 2023. It is named after the
founder of the hospital.
The new building cost CHF 670 million and has
18 floors, 2,243 rooms, 11 clinics and institutes,
and 532 patient beds. Around 1,200 patients are
attended to and supported every day.
