breakthrough in the 1980s as a supplier of
the IBM/ACS cabling system. The RJ range
was completed over decades and is still successfully
marketed around the world today.
Ingenious quick mounting
With the RJ45 module, which can be wired
tool-free, R&M also positioned itself as a
pioneer in installation-friendly connectivity
technology. From then on, two steps were
sufficient to contact eight wires concurrently
in IDC insulation displacement. At the time,
this was a great relief for installers and a leap
forward for LAN cabling.
As early as 1987, R&M started working
with innovative fiber optic technology and
developed a fiber optic cable termination for
the telecommunications market. Making the
use of fiber optics more reliable has always
been a priority.
Technological successes have continued
seamlessly to this day: Over time, a multitude
of modular distributor and high-density
solutions for FTTx fiber optic networks, the
first commercially available Cat. 8.1 and
Single Pair Ethernet systems for the LAN
market and also the HEC optical connector
for weatherproof outdoor applications were
made ready for series production. In R&M,
customers will always find a supplier who
offers sophisticated connectivity for the next
Ethernet generation.

At the end of the fourth decade, this
was followed by the Mini-MPO, the first
field-mountable fiber optic connector.
Shortly before the turn of the millennium,
R&M achieved a breakthrough in the market
for fiber optic connectors with the innovative
E-2000 connectors manufactured under
license. R&M built a fiber optic ecosystem
around these connector types over 25 years.
Many assembly companies still purchase the
E-2000 from R&M.
The ability to industrialize is another strength
of R&M. It all started with the series production
of copper terminal strips. 1988 saw the
commissioning of the first fully automatic
production plant for the manufacture of
outlet inserts. At the turn of the millennium,
R&M was the first manufacturer to produce
and fully test RJ45 connection modules
of the Cat. 5 and Cat. 6 generations fully
automatically. This was later followed by the
innovative and powerful Cat 6 A
ISO module.
