Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 – 1772) is one of my
favourite scientists and mystics. In his book “Heaven
and Hell” (1758), he mentions that “...angels have no
notion or idea of time and space...” Instead, there are
“changes of state”. As a consequence, for angels
“...eternity means infinite state, not infinite time.”
Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955) is famous with his
combination of space and time. In contrast with
Aristotle, Einstein showed that time is not absolute. The
flow of time depends on how fast you are travelling in
relation to an observer. It also depends on the
characteristics of the gravitational field you are in.
Good advice from Swedenborg’s angels!
I am thinking about some of the fundamental guidelines
in Shamanism and indeed many forms of spiritual work.
If you are given a reading by a medium at a fair for
complementary medicine or you receive feedback from
an astrologer, try to avoid questions related to time.
“When?” and “how long?” will only provide confusing
answers with little meaning.
If you participate in a ceremony involving metaphysical,
esoteric work, remember the advice by Swedenborg’s
angels. It is better to ask about changes of state and
questions relating to situations and feelings instead of
when something will happen.
So what is Time?
This is not an article about science and philosophy, so
let me move on to my own thoughts and to the ideas I
have received from Spirit.
For many years, I have been thinking about the nature
of time and what it really is.
People say that they do not have enough of it, that they
do not know what to do with it, that it has not yet
come, and that they are running out of it.
Regrettably, time is not a commodity.
If it was, you could go to a shop and purchase some
more of it. If you had more of it than you needed, you
could sell some and make a bit of money.
