• <strong>Wheelchairs</strong> need to be provided together with services.<br />

• Existing rehabilitation personnel can be utilized to provide wheelchair services.<br />

• Integrating wheelchair services with existing health or rehabilitation services is recommended.<br />

• Where possible, the needs of users should be met at community level.<br />

• Wheelchair services facilitate the assessment of individual user needs, provide an appropriate<br />

wheelchair, train users and caregivers, and provide ongoing support and referral to other<br />

services.<br />

• Each user has a unique set of physical, environmental and lifestyle needs..<br />

• Groups of personnel involved in wheelchair service delivery include manufacturers and suppliers,<br />

referral networks and service personnel.<br />

• The main roles of service personnel are managerial, clinical, technical and educational.<br />

• Peer trainers play an important role in wheelchair provision<br />

• Wheelchair provision should be regularly monitored and evaluated, especially in helping to identify<br />

those areas that are successful and those that need to be improved.<br />
