justify “rubbing” among the people <strong>and</strong> say that this was beginning <strong>and</strong> ending of the<br />

Chapter IV<br />

Sūra : Māïda, or The Table Spread Verse No.<br />

I. Your (real) friends are (no less than) God, <strong>His</strong> Apostle, <strong>and</strong> the (fellowship of)<br />

believers, - those who establish regular prayers <strong>and</strong> regular charity, <strong>and</strong> they<br />

II. Verily, your protector is God <strong>and</strong> <strong>His</strong> Apostle, <strong>and</strong> those who believe, who<br />

observe prayer, <strong>and</strong> pay the alms of obligation, <strong>and</strong> who bow in worship. (Sura<br />

IV. God only is your patron, <strong>and</strong> <strong>His</strong> Apostle <strong>and</strong> those who believe, who are<br />

steadfast in prayer <strong>and</strong> give alms, bowing down. Whoso taketh as patrons God<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>His</strong> apostles <strong>and</strong> those who believe;--verily, God's crew, they are<br />

Now, let us present here the occasion of the descending of this Verse i.e. 5:55, derived<br />

from the major Tafaseer, <strong>and</strong> Ahadith <strong>Books</strong>:<br />

Narrated Ataa from Abdullah Ibn Abbas (RA) that the person, in whose honour this verse<br />

was revealed, is Hadrat Ali Ibn Abitalib (RA). Moreover, it has been narrated that Hadrat<br />

Abdullah Bin Salam (RA) said: When this verse revealed, I said to the Holy Prophet<br />

(<strong>SAWS</strong>): I saw Hadrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib (RA) give his ring to the needy person. In<br />

another tradition, transmitted on the authority of Hadrat Abi Dharr (RA) that he said: I
