The WaveLAN/PCMCIA card is a wireless network interface
card for notebooks, notepads and other computing devices
equipped with a PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card
International Association) Type II card socket.
WaveLAN is a set of wireless networking products that enable
you to setup your computer for:
● “Connecting to Ad-Hoc Workgroups”
● “Connecting to an Infrastructure”
WaveLAN adapters function like any standard wired Ethernet
card, but: WaveLAN has cut the wires!
Where an ethernet card requires a cable connection to a hub
and/or patch panel, the cable physically ties you to the location
where you installed the wired connection.
WaveLAN allows you to connect to a Local Area Network
(LAN) anywhere within the network environment.
Unlike Ethernet, WaveLAN will enable you to roam
throughout the network environment while remaining
connected to the LAN.
Like Ethernet cards, you will need to install the
WaveLAN/PCMCIA card, using network client drivers, and
network protocols. WaveLAN is transparent to your network
operating system, and uses the same frametypes as Ethernet
networks: Your computer and network operating system will
not notice the difference between an Ethernet or WaveLAN
Card, however the flexibility of WaveLAN will make sure you
will!
