AQUATICS<br />

CHILDREN’S SWIM CLASSES<br />

American Red Cross swim program - Instruc<strong>to</strong>rs are Red Cross certified Water Safety Instruc<strong>to</strong>rs. Aides are<br />

certified in Lifeguard Training. Parents are welcome <strong>to</strong> observe the first and the last classes only. These lessons<br />

are offered in the Homestead High <strong>School</strong> swimming pool, which is kept at 79 degrees for the competitive teams<br />

that use the pool.<br />

BELOW ARE THE ENTRY LEVEL SKILLS FOR EACH OF THE SWIMMING LEVELS.<br />

Location: Homestead High <strong>School</strong> Pool<br />

Fee: Resident $60/Non-Resident $65<br />

Registration: Deadline for registration is one week prior <strong>to</strong> each session.<br />

Level 1 – No swimming or water competencies required <strong>to</strong> take this course. The student must be 5 years of age<br />

by the date of the first class for indoor lessons, no exceptions.<br />

Mondays & Wednesday 5:30pm - 6:15pm<br />

Dates: November 5, 7, 12, 14, 26, 28, Dec 3, 5, 10, 12 (Skip Nov 19 & 21)<br />

Session II Course #: 217052<br />

Mondays & Wednesday 5:30pm - 6:15pm<br />

Dates: February 18, 20, 25, 27, March 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20<br />

Level 2 – To enter Level 2 a student must have passed Level 1 – which means they must be able <strong>to</strong> submerge<br />

completely for 3 seconds, blow bubbles through mouth and nose, and be comfortable when they do front and back<br />

float with help, and swim on front and back with help.<br />

Session II Course #: 217053<br />

Mondays & Wednesday 6:30pm - 7:15pm<br />

Dates: February 18, 20, 25, 27, March 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20<br />

Level 3 – To enter Level 3 a student must have passed Level 2 – which<br />

means they must be able <strong>to</strong> front and back float for 5 seconds, and swim<br />

front and back crawl for 5 yards. The arms for both strokes should come<br />

out of the water with a propelling kick.<br />

Level 4 – To enter Level 4 a student must have passed Level 3 – which means they must be able <strong>to</strong> swim front<br />

crawl with breathing 15 yards, back crawl 15 yards, correct elementary backstroke kick 15 yards, and butterfly kick<br />

with body motion for 15 feet.<br />
