Health Histories (Including Examinations and Immunizations)
The sta at GSGATL take care in obtaining and storing girls’ health histories—which may include a physician’s examination and a list
of immunizations—as needed. You may be asked to maintain these records for your troop. Keep in mind that information from a
health examination is condential and may be shared only with people who must know this information (such as the girl herself, her
parent/guardian, and a health practitioner).
You may nd the necessary form at GSGATL’s Web site under “Forms”.
For various reasons, some parents/guardians may object to immunizations or medical examinations. We attempt to make provisions
for these girls to attend Girl Scout functions in a way that accommodates these concerns.
It is important for you to also be aware of any medications a girl may take or allergies she may have.
Girl Scout Activity Insurance
A portion of the individual annual membership dues pays for supplementary insurance for the member only. This insurance provides
up to a specied maximum for medical expenses incurred as a result of an accident while a member is participating in an approved,
supervised Girl Scout activity, after the individual’s primary insurance pays out. This is one reason that all adults and girls should
be registered members. Non-registered parents, tag-alongs (brothers, sisters, friends), and other persons are not covered by basic
coverage.
This insurance coverage is not intended to diminish the need for or replace family health insurance. And it does not duplicate
medical-expense benets collected under other programs, so after approximately $100 in benets have been paid under this plan,
the family’s medical insurance takes over. If there is no family insurance or healthcare program, a specied maximum of medical
benets is available.
An optional plan of activity insurance is available for Girl Scouts taking extended trips and for non-members who participate in Girl
Scout activities. These plans are secondary insurance that individuals are entitled to receive while participating in any approved,
supervised Girl Scout activity. Optional insurance coverage is available for any Girl Scout activity that involves non-Girl Scouts or lasts
longer than three days and two nights. Contact GSGATL to nd out how to apply. GSGATL makes this mandatory, particularly for
overseas travel.
GSGATL’s Guidelines for Girl Scout Activity Insurance
Extended Trip Insurance:
Information about the optional plans for extended trips of three nights or more is automatically sent to troop leaders who have
successfully begun the trip approval process.
Non-member insurance:
Information about the optional plan for non-members is automatically sent to event directors who have successfully completed the
approval process related to Events Beyond the Troop. Non-member insurance is not available for individual troop activities.
Tag-Alongs
A tag-along is any unregistered adult or sibling of girls in the troop who is accompanying the troop on a trip or activity. Tag-alongs
are generally not covered by Girl Scout insurance, except in special circumstances.
It is the practice of GSGATL to prohibit any non-members from attending events planned for Girl Scouts. This excludes planned
recruitment events that are designed to recruit non-members and day camp where special units are set up for children of volunteers.
Check the Appendix for Trips & Travel for more information on insuring tag-alongs for extended trips.
