Chapter 9: Camping - Taking Leadership
to the Outdoors
Camping is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether they go
for a day, week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun under the guidance of caring,
trained adults. Every girl deserves a chance to camp! Read on for information about some of the camp experiences available in
our council.
Resident Camp
Resident Camp oers girls who have nished kindergarten and older the opportunity to camp for two to fourteen days and nights
(the average is ve nights). Girls sign up as individual campers or go with a buddy. At each of our camps girls have the opportunity to
learn valuable life skills while making new friends in a fun, safe, all girl environment. Each camp oers a variety of living units including
cabins and platform tents. For most sessions, girls can chose their own activities and plan additional activities, with their counselors,
while taking advantage of the resources available at the campsite. Resident camping is available at one of our council’s ve resident
camps: Pine Valley, Pine Acres, Timber Ridge, Meriwether and Misty Mountain. Girls who participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program
receive a discounted rate for attending one of our council resident camps.
