Disbanding a Troop
If the service unit director cannot nd leadership and decides to disband the troop, then troop funds should be used as planned by
the girls in the troop prior to disbanding. The girls must be part of the decision on how to distribute the troop’s funds. If a troop is
disbanding, the troop leader and assistant should talk with the girls about what they want to do with their troop treasury. The leaders
should let the parents know what the girls decide before the funds are completely utilized. The girls can do the following:

The troop may not give girls cash from the treasury account. The funds do not become the property of any individual, girl or adult.
The troop treasury is meant to be used in program activities for the girls.
If the troop is disbanding, when the troop year ends and all checks have cleared the bank, all adults listed on the bank account must
go to the bank and close the account. A nal treasurer’s report should be completed. A statement on how the troop funds were
distributed must be on the treasurer’s report. The report should be signed by all members of the troop. This report is then given to
the service unit director.
All remaining troop resources (camping equipment, books, or materials) should be either divided equally among the receiving troops
or given to the service unit director. Service unit directors generally use funds and resources from disbanded troops to help start
new troops.
