<strong>Girl</strong>s who participate in <strong>Girl</strong> <strong>Scout</strong>s individually are called Juliettes. As Juliettes, girl members:<br />

Take Action and Community <strong>Service</strong>s<br />
<strong>Girl</strong> <strong>Scout</strong>s has had community service as a cornerstone from its beginning. Recently we have introduced the concept <strong>of</strong> Take Action<br />
projects. This summary is to help understand the di�erence.<br />
When girls do service, they help to ful�ll an immediate need. Often it may be a one-time occurrence and you may be asked to perform<br />
the service. You may be asked to do a food drive or collect clothes for a shelter. <strong>Service</strong> usually provides the most basic needs – food,<br />
clothing, shelter, care.<br />
When girls move beyond immediate service to understand the cause <strong>of</strong> a problem, they move toward action. When they team up and<br />
get other people involved in their e�orts to solve the problem, they are taking action. In Take Action projects, they seek to understand<br />
the cause <strong>of</strong> a problem, look for a solution that is sustainable and enlist others from the community.<br />
<strong>Service</strong> makes the world better for some people “right now”. Taking Action makes the world better for more people for a much longer<br />
time. Sometimes service and action blend together into one long-lasting e�ort. Together, through service and action girls live the <strong>Girl</strong><br />
<strong>Scout</strong> Law and “make the world a better place”.<br />
