10.7 <strong>DISPATCHER</strong> CO-ORDINATION<br />

10.7.1 An assessment of dispatcher’s ability to interact with other departments effectively is required.<br />

The actions of the individual should contribute to the overall effectiveness of the dispatcher<br />

during normal, abnormal, and emergency situations. dispatcher resource management should<br />

be observed individually, and have an interrelationship in the overall effectiveness of operational<br />

control. Each dispatcher must demonstrate effective relationship both internally and externally.<br />

10.7.2 Procedures utilized by the dispatcher must be in accordance with company Standard<br />

Operating Procedures.<br />

Some common errors that may affect dispatcher co-ordination are (not limited to):<br />

(a) Failure to complete duties as described in the company SOPs;<br />

(b) Failure to heed warnings of other dispatchers;<br />

(c) Loss of situational awareness due to ineffective dispatcher communication;<br />

(d) Failure to alert other dispatchers of potentially hazardous situations;<br />

(e) Failure to effectively share workload with other dispatchers;<br />

(f) Overall lack of awareness, or attention to operational control functions; or<br />

(g) Tendency to deviate from SOPs when workload increases.<br />

10.8 <strong>DISPATCHER</strong> DECISION MAKING<br />

10.8.1 decision making capability for all dispatchers must be assessed during competency checks.<br />

Each dispatcher must demonstrate the ability to make timely and effective decisions and to<br />

delegate tasks to other dispatchers when required.<br />

Some common errors that may affect the rating of this sequence are:<br />

(a) Failure to make decisions in a timely and effective manner;<br />

(b) Poor decision making due to inadequate knowledge;<br />

(c) Not utilizing all available dispatchers and company resources;<br />

(d) Failure to consider all available information;<br />

(e) Failure to initiate normal, abnormal or emergency procedures;<br />

(f) Failure to provide leadership as required by company SOPs; or<br />

(g) Failure to heed warning of other dispatchers.<br />
