Synthesis of 8. To a stirred solution of N-trimethylsilyl-N-<br />

[2,6-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)phenyl]amino-dichloroarsane<br />

(5) (0.546g, 1.0 mmol) in toluene (10mL), AgSO3CF3 (0.283g,<br />

1.1 mmol) in toluene (10mL), was added dropwise at –30 °C<br />

<strong>und</strong>er exclusion of light. The resulting colourless suspension<br />

was stirred at ambient temperatures for 3 hours, and was then<br />

filtered (F4), resulting in a colourless solution. The solvent is<br />

concentrated to a volume of 1 mL resulting in a pale brownish<br />

solution, which is stored at –25 °C, resulting in the deposition<br />

of colourless crystals. Removal of supernatant by syringe and<br />

drying in vacuo yields 0.648g (0.98 mmol, 98%) of 8 as<br />

colourless, crystalline solid. Mp 163 °C. Anal. calc. % (fo<strong>und</strong>):<br />

C, 50.95 (50.63); H, 5.19 (5.37); N, 2.12 (2.03). 29 Si NMR<br />

Synthesis of 9. To a stirred solution of AgSO3CF3 (0.565g,<br />

2.2 mmol) in toluene (20mL), N-trimethylsilyl-N-[2,6-bis-<br />

(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)phenyl]amino-dichloroarsane (5)<br />

(0.546g, 1.0 mmol) in toluene (20mL), was added dropwise at<br />

ambient temperatures <strong>und</strong>er exclusion of light. The resulting<br />

pale brownish suspension was stirred at ambient temperatures<br />

for 2 hours, and was then filtered (F4), resulting in a colourless<br />

solution. The solvent is concentrated to a volume of 1 mL<br />

resulting in a pale brownish solution, which is stored at –25 °C,<br />

resulting in the deposition of colourless crystals. Removal of<br />

supernatant by syringe and drying in vacuo yields 0.745g (0.96<br />

mmol, 96%) of 9 as colourless, crystalline solid. Mp 186 °C<br />

(dec.). Anal. calc. % (fo<strong>und</strong>): C, 45.02 (44.94); H, 4.43 (4.64);<br />

N, 1.81 (1.73). 29 Si NMR (59.6 MHz, CD 2 Cl 2 , 25 °C): δ = 19.4.<br />

19 F{ 1 H} NMR (235.4 MHz, CD2 Cl 2 , 25 °C): δ = -77.8, -77.3.<br />
