File<br />

A collection of data, g<strong>en</strong>erally stored on cassette or disc.<br />

File name<br />

The name of a file. In Dr. Logo a file name can consist of up to 8 alphabetic or<br />

numeric characters. In CP/M or AMSDOS, an additional three character file type,<br />

preceded by a dot • is allowed.<br />

Firmware<br />

Software contained in ROM - a cross betwe<strong>en</strong> pure software and pure hardware.<br />

Fixed-point number<br />

A number repres<strong>en</strong>ted, manipulated and stored with the decimal point in a fixed<br />

specified position.<br />

Floating-point number<br />

A Real number, manipulated and stored with its decimal point permitted to settle<br />

in the required position. The method is particularly useful wh<strong>en</strong> dealing with<br />

large numbers.<br />

Flowchart<br />

A diagrammatic repres<strong>en</strong>tation of the progression of program steps and logical<br />

processes tracing the sequ<strong>en</strong>ce of ev<strong>en</strong>ts during program execution.<br />

Forth<br />

A high speed programming language, with speed and complexity falling betwe<strong>en</strong><br />

a High-level language and Machine code. Not a beginners' language.<br />

Function key<br />

A key on the keyboard that has be<strong>en</strong> assigned a specific task - which it may<br />

execute in addition to, or instead of the main purpose inscribed upon that key.<br />
