Modem<br />

A MOdulator DEModulator that connects the computer's I/O to a telephone line or<br />

other serial data transmission medium - including fibre optics. (See also Acoustic<br />

coupler)<br />

Monitor<br />

The scre<strong>en</strong> section of a computer terminal system, and also a term describing a<br />

machine language program that provides access to the fundam<strong>en</strong>tal machine<br />

operation of the computer.<br />

Mouse<br />

An upside-down 'tracker' or 'roller ball'. Pushed around a table top by hand, a<br />

mouse is g<strong>en</strong>erally used to move a cursor around the scre<strong>en</strong>. Originally designed<br />

to overcome the fear of keyboards and make software appear more 'user fri<strong>en</strong>dly'.<br />

MSB<br />

The Most Significant Bit of a binary number, i.e. the bit at the left <strong>en</strong>d of the<br />

binary expression.<br />

Network<br />

Wh<strong>en</strong> two or more computers are linked together to exchange data and<br />

information - either by wiring, or via MODEMs.<br />

Nibble<br />

Half a byte: a four bit expression. Each of the hexadecimal digits in the<br />

expression &F6 repres<strong>en</strong>ts 'one nibble'.<br />

Node<br />

A unit of storage in the LOGO workspace. Typically one node consumes 4 bytes of<br />

memory space.<br />

Noise<br />

The 6128 sound facilities include the ability to inject a variable amount of random<br />

noise to create effects such as explosions.<br />
