The Trust<br />
Kingston hospital NHS trust provides elective <strong>and</strong> emergency hospital services for<br />
the populations of Kingston, Richmond <strong>and</strong> Putney as well as parts of<br />
Twickenham <strong>and</strong> <strong>South</strong> W<strong>and</strong>sworth. It has an enviable location in leafy Surrey<br />
<strong>and</strong> enjoys close clinical <strong>and</strong> academic links with St George’s hospital. The<br />
hospital has a dynamic <strong>and</strong> innovative outlook with a major redesign of the site<br />
ongoing to provide new ward blocks <strong>and</strong> postgraduate facilities; an application for<br />
foundation status is at an advanced stage. Kingston hospital has approximately<br />
600 beds of which 200 of these are medical. The firms’ ward base is currently<br />
very manageable with an average of 20 beds. Kingston values its junior staff,<br />
recently supporting a mutually beneficent redesign of the on call rota <strong>and</strong> this<br />
has been reflected in the feedback from junior medical staff.<br />
General Medicine:<br />
This is a busy acute hospital with a full<br />
range of specialties provided by the 16<br />
medical consultants. Medical admissions<br />
vary between 10-40 in each 24hour<br />
period <strong>and</strong> give excellent exposure to the<br />
full range of medical emergencies. The<br />
Accident <strong>and</strong> emergency department has<br />
recently been redeveloped <strong>and</strong> is<br />
modern, efficient-consistently achieving<br />
28
