work as a team, to allow cover for both in-patients, <strong>and</strong> out-patient clinics,<br />
when one is away on leave. Occasionally the need arises for both SPRs to be<br />
absent at one time, but this is discouraged <strong>and</strong> should only be in<br />
exceptional circumstances.<br />
Research <strong>and</strong> audit projects are actively encouraged by the department, <strong>and</strong><br />
protected time can be given for such projects.<br />
Most SPRs find their time at Mayday useful <strong>and</strong> enjoyable – although the<br />
general medical side of the firm is busy, outside of take days the duties are<br />
not too onerous. There is generally sufficient time to gain a good grounding<br />
in most aspects of general diabetes <strong>and</strong> endocrinology, together with<br />
sufficient patient mass in several aspects of specialist care to provide a<br />
rewarding experience during the year spent here. The firm has one SHO <strong>and</strong><br />
two HOs (one per consultant).<br />
