SPRs in discussions about changes. Our “take team” consists of 2<br />
Consultants, the SPR (ST4?), 2 intermediate doctors <strong>and</strong> 2 F1s. We are on<br />
take 2 days in 9 on a rolling rota, <strong>and</strong> thus offer a wealth of general medical<br />
experience.<br />
<strong>Diabetes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Endocrinology</strong><br />
We run a very general service for <strong>Diabetes</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>Endocrinology</strong> from our <strong>Diabetes</strong> Centre. The<br />
experience serves as an excellent introduction to<br />
<strong>Diabetes</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Endocrinology</strong> for a year one SPR<br />
(ST4?).<br />
We have a strong team of nurses led by a Consultant<br />
Nurse. We work closely with local GPs. We run<br />
specialist clinics for children run by Dr Sue Coldwell,<br />
adolescents, pregnancy, renal disease, <strong>and</strong> a foot<br />
clinic. This gives <strong>and</strong> excellent experience in both<br />
specialist <strong>and</strong> general diabetes care.<br />
We run a general endocrine clinic once a week, <strong>and</strong> we have strong links<br />
with the acaedemic unit at Brighton University Hospital.<br />

We expect out SPR to show drive <strong>and</strong> initiative <strong>and</strong> to be a self motivated<br />
learner, <strong>and</strong> of course offer a great deal of support. The SPR attends<br />
regional training days, as well as all the Department of Medicine teaching<br />
sessions. We expect the SPR to be actively involved in teaching, training <strong>and</strong><br />
assessment of junior staff. We encourage involvement in audit.<br />
