Background information about the hospital:<br />
The Royal Surrey County Hospital is located on the outskirts of<br />
Guildford, close to the A3 with very good links by rail or road. The<br />
hospital is a purpose built modern hospital that is located on<br />
University l<strong>and</strong> close to an up <strong>and</strong> coming <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>ing university.<br />
The facilities of the hospital are excellent with the regional medical<br />
library, minimal access training unit involving video-conferencing <strong>and</strong><br />
all the latest hi-tec educational equipment <strong>and</strong> links around the<br />
world.<br />
The department has a purpose build diabetes <strong>and</strong> endocrinology<br />
centre with an inbuilt research unit called the Cedar Centre (Centre<br />
for <strong>Endocrinology</strong>, <strong>Diabetes</strong> <strong>and</strong> Research). This has been funded by<br />
charitable donations <strong>and</strong> research grants <strong>and</strong> was design Sir Nicholas<br />
Grimshaw (Eden Project <strong>and</strong> Waterloo International Fame). This unit<br />
was opened by Prince Andrew in 2005 <strong>and</strong> provides excellent clinical<br />
<strong>and</strong> research facilities. Professor Russell Jones, is also Clinical<br />
Director of the Wolfson Funded Translational Research laboratories,<br />
housed within the Post Graduate Medical School Building adjacent to<br />
