The Trust
The Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust covers the area surrounding Gatwick
Airport and provides all acute medical services to a population of
approximately 450,000 in a number of towns, including Horsham, Crawley,
Dorking, Redhill/Reigate and surrounding villages, surrounding through to
the outer suburbs of London. All acute services for the Trust were located
on the East Surrey site in 2004, extension and refurbishment of facilities on
the site are on-going and expected to be completed by 2008. Currently
there are approximately 250 medical beds at East Surrey. General Medical
facilities include an attractive cardiac unit, which includes an Angiography
suite, and large and well equipped ITU and HDU facilities. The medical
admission unit is about to be refurbished and extended. The site is
compact and there are excellent support facilities, including CT and MR and
support from visiting Nephrologists, Oncologists etc.
General Medicine
The Endocrine Registrar will take part in the medical on-call rota on a 1 in
10 basis. Day-time on-call shifts are worked from9am to 9pm and the
Registrar’s nights are split between a 3 day weekend and 4 days of week
nights, worked in a separate week. Medical admissions average between 40
and 50 per 24-hours and give excellent exposure to a wide variety of
medical problems. The consultant input is active and friendly. There is a
full range of support services, including radiological, endoscopic and ITU
