The Specialist Registrar also has the opportunity to gain experience in a<br />
digital photographic diabetic retinopathy screening programme, the use of our<br />
District <strong>Diabetes</strong> Register <strong>and</strong> in aspects of <strong>Diabetes</strong> service management<br />
through our <strong>Diabetes</strong> Team Meetings <strong>and</strong> Away-Days.<br />
There are a number of endocrinology clinics <strong>and</strong> the Specialist Registrar<br />
attends a weekly General Endocrine clinic. This clinic provides broad<br />
experience in pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal <strong>and</strong> reproductive<br />
endocrinology. Each clinic is followed by a case review meeting. In addition,<br />
a weekly joint specialty Thyroid clinic at Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton,<br />
offers the Specialist Registrar particular experience in the use of radioiodine<br />
<strong>and</strong> in the management of thyroid cancer<br />
All endocrine investigations are carried out at our Medical Investigation Unit<br />
<strong>and</strong> a full range of endocrine imaging techniques is available. The Specialist<br />
Registrar is involved in planning <strong>and</strong> reviewing the results of endocrine<br />
investigations.<br />
