Departmental <strong>and</strong> Hospital Meetings<br />
• There is an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre with an active<br />
programme of educational activities, including weekly Gr<strong>and</strong> Rounds,<br />
weekly postgraduate lectures, <strong>and</strong> clinical audit half-days.<br />
• Regular Departmental meetings include a monthly <strong>Diabetes</strong> Journal<br />
Club, monthly <strong>Diabetes</strong> clinical cases meeting (multi-professional),<br />
weekly <strong>Endocrinology</strong> post-clinic case discussion, monthly <strong>Diabetes</strong><br />
Clinical Governance meeting, <strong>and</strong> a monthly joint meeting of<br />
<strong>Endocrinology</strong>, Paediatric <strong>Endocrinology</strong> <strong>and</strong> Chemical Pathology<br />
departments.<br />
Research <strong>and</strong> Clinical Audit<br />
• We have an active programme of clinical audit <strong>and</strong> the Specialist<br />
Registrar is expected to complete at least one clinical audit during this<br />
post.<br />
• Involvement in ongoing research activities is encouraged <strong>and</strong> it is<br />
possible for the Specialist Registrar to undertake small clinical research<br />
projects during this post.<br />
• There are also opportunities to participate in clinical trials through our<br />
Clinical Trials Unit.<br />
• The Specialist Registrar is encouraged to present original work at local,<br />
regional <strong>and</strong> national professional meetings<br />
Specific attractions of this post<br />
• Extensive clinical experience in both diabetes <strong>and</strong> endocrinology in a<br />
large District General Hospital <strong>and</strong> Associated Teaching Hospital.<br />
• Wide range of opportunities for specialist training, including joint<br />
clinics at Royal Marsden Hospital <strong>and</strong> at the <strong>South</strong>-west <strong>Thames</strong><br />
Regional Renal Unit, St Helier Hospital, which provides unrivalled<br />
training opportunities in diabetes-related renal disease.<br />
• Excellent clinical facilities, including a purpose-built <strong>Diabetes</strong> Centre<br />
<strong>and</strong> a Medical Investigation Unit (for all endocrine investigations).<br />
• Excellent teaching experience – medical students from St George’s<br />
Hospital (5 year course <strong>and</strong> Graduate Entry Programme), postgraduates<br />
<strong>and</strong> other professional groups – <strong>and</strong> excellent teaching facilities in our<br />
multi-professional teaching centre.<br />
