C. Provide flexible couplings within 2 ft (0.6 m) of the connection to overhead piping or armover <strong>for</strong> pipe<br />
drops greater than 2 ft (0.6 m) in length.<br />
2.2.1.4.8 Install seismic separation assemblies on all fire protection system piping that crosses a building<br />
seismic expansion joint (including separations between two buildings) above ground level. Figure 22 illustrates<br />
an acceptable arrangement of piping, flexible couplings, and elbows <strong>for</strong> 4 in. (100 mm) piping crossing an<br />
8 in. (200 mm) separation. When other pipe sizes or separation distances are used, the sizes and dimensions<br />
of equipment may differ. Other engineered methods that provide a comparable degree of flexibility in two<br />
orthogonal horizontal directions as well as vertically are acceptable.<br />
