Staff of <strong>UBA</strong> Foundation, recruited to maintain gardens developed <strong>and</strong> managed by the Bank<br />
<strong>UBA</strong> REWARDS WINNERS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES AT THE U-CARE<br />
PROMO DRAWS<br />
The <strong>UBA</strong> U-Care promo was organised by the Bank to reward its customers for their loyalty. At the gr<strong>and</strong><br />
draw of the promo held at the <strong>UBA</strong> corporate head offi ce in Lagos, some customers benefi ted from the<br />
one million, fi ve hundred thous<strong>and</strong> naira (N1.5mn) scholarship, while others were awarded bursaries of<br />
fi fty thous<strong>and</strong> naira (N50 000).<br />
In another promo/campaign (<strong>UBA</strong> Gunners Promo), customers were rewarded for their patronage. Prizes<br />
won included br<strong>and</strong> new car, all expense paid trip to watch Arsenal play <strong>and</strong> so on.<br />
HEALTH AND SAFETY PROJECTS<br />
<strong>UBA</strong> continued to support the healthcare sector. In <strong>2009</strong>, the Bank’s corporate social responsibility arm,<br />
<strong>UBA</strong> Foundation engaged in a number of activities to drive initiative. It donated N.5 million towards<br />
assisting one year old Abel Chukwu, who underwent neurosurgery at the University of Nigeria Teaching<br />
Hospital (UNTH), Enugu. The money was presented to the parents Mr. <strong>and</strong> Mrs. Christian Chukwu by<br />
the Education Programme Manager, <strong>UBA</strong> Foundation, Mrs. Gloria Braimah-Imoukhuede. Little Abel<br />
Chukwu fell from a building <strong>and</strong> suff ered some haemorrhaging which caused damage to his brain. <strong>UBA</strong><br />
Foundation was touched by little Abel’s plight <strong>and</strong> committed to assist him. The Management <strong>and</strong> Staff<br />
of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital in Enugu, where Abel will undergo the surgery, were elated<br />
<strong>and</strong> in turn pledged to do their best to ensure that little Abel’s surgery was successful.<br />
In a similar vein, it donated two dialysis machines to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH)<br />
amongst others.<br />
There are other projects that <strong>UBA</strong> Foundation has been engaged in:<br />
• Infrastructural Development – the ongoing University of Lagos Leisure Park Project.<br />
• The Aqua-Vita Projects – This is a Pan-African initiative that is to provide ‘Water for Life’ for various<br />
communities where <strong>UBA</strong> operates.<br />
