Burying<br />

Burying is usually the preferred practice and there are three methods for<br />

burying slash and debris with overburden material: trenching, mounding or<br />

windrowing, and creating pushouts.<br />

The volume <strong>of</strong> slash and overburden should first be calculated per lineal<br />

metre <strong>of</strong> road. Generally, for every cubic metre <strong>of</strong> debris, a metre <strong>of</strong> clearing<br />

is required for disposal (Figure 12). When excessive slash volumes are<br />

encountered, other disposal methods should be considered.<br />

Buried material should:<br />

• be compacted before being covered with soil<br />

• be covered with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 300 mm <strong>of</strong> soil<br />

• be placed so as not to interfere with roadway or other drainage, utilities,<br />

planned road improvements, snow removal, design sight distance, future<br />

developments, or standing timber<br />

• not interfere with any watercourse.<br />
