Major network development works<br />

carried out during the year are as<br />

n widening of the A31 over 98<br />

kilometres between Beaune and<br />

Langres, with the 2 x 3 lanes section<br />

opened to traffic in November 2009,<br />

n widening of the A36 between Belfort<br />

and Montbéliard over 19 kilometres,<br />

with the opening of the third lanes up to<br />

Montbéliard centre in December 2009,<br />

n the Mionnay half-interchange on<br />

the A46 to the north of Lyon with<br />

an opening to traffic in conjunction<br />

with that on the A432,<br />

n the Arlay interchange on the A39<br />

connected to the Jura services area,<br />

opened to traffic in September 2009,<br />

n the Chaux-Seynod interchange on<br />

the A41 Nord, where works began in<br />

September 2009, and which is due to<br />

open at end-2010.<br />

A432 LA CÔTIERE VIADUCT<br />

After two years of work, this<br />

exceptional 1,210 metre engineering<br />

structure carried by17 bearing<br />

points, including 2 abutments<br />

and 15 piers, is now beginning to<br />

blend into the La Côtière countryside.<br />

The pier construction works are now<br />

almost finished, and the steel frames<br />

to support the concrete decks are being<br />

pushed into position by successive<br />

phases from one pier to another.<br />

The viaduct also stands out for the<br />

innovative way in which it integrates<br />

into the environment. This is the<br />

result of a European design & build<br />

competition conducted in association<br />

with the State and the local<br />

authorities concerned.<br />
