The hub organises the changeover
between the structuring passenger,
goods and freight networks and clean
individual or mass modes of transport
suited to the distances to be covered.
The study continued with sketches of a
shared public space – a notional street
– with separate vehicle, pedestrian and
cycle lanes varying according to the
time of day to meet the needs of the
dominant user category at any given
moment.
For this HQVie ® (high quality of life)
town, thought was even given to
possible modular vehicles enabling
shared use.
Service quality and
sustainable development
APRR continues its involvement in
research and development projects
aiming to improve safety, service quality
and the environment.
In this respect, 2009 notably saw the
Group carry out experiments in the use
of renewable energies to power its
equipment: installation of a micro
land-based wind turbine on the A6 in
Auxerre; highly successful testing of
a fuel cell on the A5; and installation of
photovoltaic cells on the canopy of the
new Arlay toll plaza on the A39, etc.
APRR is also continuing to develop
systems to automatically detect
occupancy of HGV parking spaces
on rest areas, with testing of a new
stand-alone system on the
Beaune-Tailly rest area (A6).
Lastly, APRR and AREA remain active
in the European Easy Way programme,
which aims to develop intelligent
transport systems designed to improve
safety and traffic flow while reducing
CO emissions. In this area, AREA is

taking a close interest in the Rosatte
project which is looking into the
possibility of displaying key safety
information on board vehicles.
