4 MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER 2009 AnnuAL REPORT APRR Following a slight fall in car and truck traffic on our network in 2008, the year 2009 saw an increase in the number of cars and a considerable reduction in heavy goods vehicles. The overall effect was a slight decline over the past two years. Agreements were reached with unions concerning salaries and, insofar as APRR is concerned, the gradual automation of toll plazas. The injury accident rate continued to decrease while mortality remained stable, having been halved in 2008. The APRR and AREA teams once again demonstrated their efficiency during the recent bout of bad weather in late 2009 and early 2010, with holidaymakers being able to complete their journeys thanks to the availability of appropriate machinery and the skills of our people.
