Educational assistance The department took an active part in temporary exhibitions, preparing educational material, providing guidance for teachers and undertaking activities in the museum itself. The statistics on educational visits to the exhibition titled Thomas Joshua Cooper. Other activities Conference Lecture Lecture Workshops FCM participation in the 2nd Environmental Science Seminar Groups 98 Pupils 2,205 Teachers 183 Throughout 2003 the Foundation’s Education Department participated in courses, seminars, symposia, etc., organised by other institutions. The “Manrique model” in crisis Students and professors from the University of Brussels visited FCM headquarters on 5 February. This conference, which addressed the crisis affecting the model of tourist development and territorial action planned by César Manrique, was delivered on the occasion of their visit. The model was likewise introduced to students and professors participating in a masters’ programme on biodiversity management in the tropics during their 15 February visit to the foundation. Tourism and environment on Lanzarote Delivered on 14 and 15 March 2003 as part of the syllabus for the Tourism Training Course offered by the public secondary school in Haría, Lanzarote. Sustainability in Lanzarote. Challenges, shortcomings and expectations Delivered on 18 March in the Second environmental seminar organised by the San Bartolomé Town Hall. Discovering the collage Collage workshops were organised from 1 to 11 April at FCM headquarters, concurring with the retrospective exhibition on the artist Washington Barcala; these workshops were in addition to the activities conducted in connection with the educational visits to the showing. The FCM’s Education Department participated in the 2 nd Environmental Science Seminar organised by the Faculty of Environmental Science of the University of Granada and held from 31 March to 5 April. Two lectures were delivered by FCM staff, Lanzarote, the environmental impact of coastal tourism and Tourism on the Canary Islands. 145
