Boeing breaks a new record
regarding contracts and orders at main
aeronautical fairs
The North American manufacturer was the winner of the last Farnborough edition, where
it managed to close agreements and purchase commitments for a total of more than
28,400 million euros, that is, twice the sum reached by its European competitor, Airbus.
ILA Berlin, on its turn, closed the doors with a new success on attendance, the signature
of important institutional collaboration agreements and optimistic expectations for the
European aeronautical market facing the coming years
The international aeronautical industry is still very active, according
to the results reached by major plane manufacturers in the
two main fairs of the aerospace sector this year, which were held
during last summer: Farnborough, in the month of July, and ILA Berlin,
last September. Even though the financial difficulties of the global economy,
which are not foreign to aeronautical commercial activity, the two
main events of the aerospace market closed their doors with important
achievements and agreements that will give a new breath of fresh air to
many companies and firms that make the sector up. Specially, with regard
to subcontractors and suppliers of the North American manufacturer
Boeing, which was proclaimed as the winner at the British appointment,
by doubling the value of sales of its European competitor, Airbus.
Boeing closed its participation at Farnborough with firm orders
and purchase commitments for a total value of 34,700 million dollars
(28,465 million euros), more than twice the sum reached by EADS
subsidiary company. The North American group brought a perfect
end to the fair with the announcement of an agreement to manufacture
150 737-model planes for United Continental, owner of United
Airlines, the major airline in the world, valued at 14,700 million dollars
(12,000 million euros). This order includes 100 aircrafts of the new 737
Max version and another 50 units of the current version. The managers
of United revealed that the order put an end to almost one year of
conversations with Boeing and Airbus that resulted in the selection
of the plane that, according to them, has the best features with regard
to engine and price. Therefore, this order means a new boost to
Boeing and its 737 Max program, which is in direct competition with
A320Neo of Airbus and which commitments surpass 1.000 aircrafts.
In fact, the B737 program received most of the orders within the London
fair, with other important orders of the North American company GECAS (75
planes of 737 Max model and 25 of 737-800 Next-Generation), Air Lease
Corporation (75 aircrafts of 737 Max), or the Irish company Avolon (with 15
planes of 737 Max version and 10 planes of 737-800 Next-Generation).
Airbus, on its turn, reached purchase commitments for a total
value of 16,900 million dollars (13,800 million euros), with a total order of
