this basis that there is a possibility to increase
awareness of the variety of heritage resources in
a particular community or society, and to build up
a common agreement about the proper actions.
The purpose of international collaboration cari be
seen partly in the aim to sustain efforts at
national and local levels to identify and tare for
heritage. Partly, such collaboration should allow
for the individual countries and communities to
corne together and to compare problems and
results in view of continuous improvement and
the development of common methodologies and
strategies of action that cari be examples to
the world for a sustainable and sensitive
conservation and development.
This meeting in Zimbabwe is an important step in
establishing a critical methodology which Will
help the cultural heritage professionals of
sub-Saharan Africa to preserve better their
heritage, both tangible and intangible, within the
necessary contexts to give it meaning and
applicability here in Africa.
