(ou 1.4404). L’Euronorme indique aussi de
manière plus détaillée la composition : par
exemple X5CrNi18-10 pour du 1.4301.
Les principales nuances adaptées au
bâtiment sont des inox austénitiques,
ferritiques et duplex. Les nuances
martensitiques sont parfois utilisées dans
des applications de type fil ou barre.
Names
Stainless steel grades are designated
in Europe according to the standard
EN 10088 by a series of figures,
such as 1.4000 (EN 10088 standard)
and in the United States by three figures
(AISI standard). For example, 1.4301
(or AISI 304) corresponds to an austenitic
stainless steel with 18% chromium and
10% nickel. Further, the letter L in the US
name indicates very low carbon content
which guarantees better resistance to
corrosion, as in 316L (or 1.4404).
The European standard also indicates
the composition in a more detailed
manner: for example X5CrNi18-10
for 1.4301.
The main grades used in the building
sector are austenitic ferritic or duplex
stainless steels. The martensitic grades
are sometimes used in applications
of type wire or bar.
