Die Pflanze oben auf dem Bild ist fürden Frühjahrsmonat März sehr fortgeschritten. Sie stammt ausdem Treibhaus seines Walliser Gärtnerfreundes. Blütezeit desEdelweiss ist von Mai bis August. Die Pflanze rechts zeigt einverblühtes Edelweiss vom letzten Jahr. Um dem wachsendenInteresse von Firmen wie Weleda und Ricola an der Kultivierungder Blume nachzukommen, hat Charly Rey 1993 ander Forschungsanstaldt Conthey von Agroscope Changings-Wädenswil ACW ein Selektionsprogramm lanciert. In Zusammenarbeitmit diversen CoautorInnen brachte er 2011das Buch «Edelweiss – reine des fleurs» heraus. Trotz seinemwissenschaftlichen Ansatz hat Charly Rey eine emotionaleVerbindung zu der Blume: «Dieser Silberstern verführt zumTräumen! Das Edelweiss ist das Symbol der Liebe, der Treueund des Mutes und damit eine Marke, die für die SchweizerQualität steht», findet Charly Rey.Charly Rey from Conthey in Wallis Canton is a retired botanist,gardener and book author. He cultivates Edelweiss flowersin his own garden. The plant shown on the left in thepicture above is very advanced for the spring month ofMarch. It comes from the greenhouse belonging to his gardenerfriend in Wallis. The Edelweiss blooms from May to August.The plant on the right in the above photo shows awithered Edelweiss flower from last year. In order to meet thegrowing interest from companies such as Weleda and Ricolain the cultivation of the flower, Charly Rey launched a selectionprogram at the Agroscope Changings-WädenswilACW research institute in Conthey in 1993. In cooperationwith diverse co-authors he published the book (“Edelweiss –reine des fleurs”) in 2011. Despite his scientific approach,Charly Rey also has an emotional connection to the flower:“This silver star tempts you to dream! The Edelweiss is thesymbol for love, for faithfulness and courage and is thus abrand which stands for Swiss quality,” explained Charly Rey.Charly Rey vit à Conthey dans le canton du Valais. Elle vient de la serrede son ami jardinier valaisan. L’edelweiss fleurit de mai àaoût. La plante à droite montre un edelweiss fané de l’annéedernière. Pour répondre à l’intérêt croissant de firmes commeWeleda et Ricola pour la culture de la fleur, Charles Rey alancé en 1993 un programme de sélection au centre de re-cherche et de formation Agroscope Changins-WädenswilACW, à Conthey. Avec le concours de divers co-auteurs, il apublié en 2011 le livre «Edelweiss – reine des fleurs». Maismalgré son approche scientifique, Charly Rey a un lien trèsémotionnel avec la fleur: «la beauté pure de cette étoile d’argentnous invite au rêve! L’edelweiss est le symbole del’amour, de la fidélité, le symbole aussi du courage et parconséquant une marque qui représente la qualité suisse»,juge Charly Rey.47
