Seit Jahren näht sie die traditionellenBauernhemden bei sich zu Hause, die in der Schweizvor allem unter der Landbevölkerung getragen werden: vonBauern, Berglern und Älplern. «Schon unzählige Hemdenaus Edelweissstoff sind mit meinen Händen entstanden»,sagt die Landfrau. Das Edelweiss verbindet sie mit Kultur,Brauchtum und Bodenständigkeit. «Ich liebe die Berge, dieNatur und das Verarbeiten ihrer Materialien und natürlichdes Edelweissstoffes», erzählt Vreni Schwizer weiter. Für sieliegt es auf der Hand, dass das Edelweiss die prädestinierteBlume der Schweiz ist. «Wir sind ein Land der Gletscher undBerge, und das Edelweiss wächst in den Felsen. Ausserdemist es nicht einfach zu pflücken und eine geschützte Blume»,bemerkt die Bäuerin. Die Berge bieten nicht nur der Blume,sondern der ganzen Schweiz auch einen gewissen Schutz.Der wird durch Bekennen zum Schweizertum unterstützt,zum Beispiel mit dem Tragen der Edelweisshemden.Vreni Schwizer from Unterwasser in the Canton of St. Gallenis a farmer and a seamstress. She associates the Edelweisswith culture, traditions and a down-to-earth character.“I love the mountains, the nature and working with its materialsand naturally the Edelweiss material,” continued VreniSchwizer. For her it is obvious that the Edelweiss is predestinedto become Switzerland's national flower. “We are in theland of the glaciers and mountains and the Edelweiss growson the cliffs. Plus it is not very easy to pluck and it is a protectedflower,” commented the farmer. However, the mountainsnot only offer the flower but also Switzerland itself acertain level of protection. Pour elle il est évident que l’edelweiss est lafleur prédestinée de la Suisse. «Nous sommes un pays deglaciers et de montagnes et l’edelweiss pousse dans les rochers.De plus il n’est pas facile à cueillir et c’est une fleurprotégée», remarque la paysanne. Les montagnes n’offrentpas seulement à la fleur, mais aussi à toute la Suisse unecertaine protection.
