A new contender in the smart speaker arena<br />
Plus de 15 % de la population canadienne<br />
utilisera un haut-parleur intelligent cette<br />
année, augmentation fulgurante de 51 %<br />
par rapport à 2018. Ces haut-parleurs<br />
connectés sont principalement dominés<br />
par Google et Amazon même si Sonos et<br />
Apple en offrent aussi.<br />
Jusqu’à tout récemment, pour les<br />
francophones, la gamme Google était<br />
pratiquement le seul choix. Ce n’est plus<br />
le cas avec la compatibilité française<br />
(Canada) de la gamme Echo d’Amazon. Qui<br />
plus est, Amazon vient de lancer cet été un<br />
excellent petit appareil, le Echo Show 5.<br />
Vendu 100 $ pile (et souvent trouvé à<br />
moins que cela), l’Echo Show 5 propose<br />
un écran tactile de 5,5 pouces (d’où son<br />
nom) et un son convenable. Contrôle de<br />
maison intelligente, compatibilité Spotify,<br />
Deezer et Radio-Canada notamment, il<br />
permet aussi d’être réveillé avec de la<br />
musique, ce que le Google Hub n’offre<br />
pas. Il est doté de Bluetooth, de micros et<br />
d’une caméra pour la vidéoconférence. La<br />

More than 15 % of Canada will use a<br />
smart speaker in <strong>2019</strong>, a huge 51%<br />
increase comparted to 2018. These<br />
connected speakers are dominated by<br />
Google and Amazon even though Sonos<br />
and Apple also make them.<br />
Until recently I had a distinct preference<br />
for Google and Sonos but this summer,<br />
Amazon launched a great little product in<br />
the Echo Show 5. Equipped with a 5.5 inch<br />
screen (hence its name), the Echo Show<br />
is more than a speaker and can control<br />
smart home items such as Hue lights. It<br />
can display weather, your next calendar<br />
events (and is compatible with iCloud<br />
Calendars whereas the 7-incher Google<br />
Home Hub is not).<br />
At a retail price of 99 $, and often found<br />
for less, the Echo Show 5 will play Spotify,<br />
Deezer, Prime Music, CBC news and<br />
more. You can even wake up to music,<br />
something Google’s smart speakers have<br />
not been able to do in Canada so far. It<br />
even has a camera that you can toggle off<br />
if you’re paranoid<br />
about those<br />
things. A neat<br />
little package for<br />
this price.
