KINAM MAGAZINE — FEBRUARY | MARCH 2021
Rita Marley (center) at the IRAWMA 37
Daddy U-Roy is a multiwinner
of several IRAWMA
over the last 39 years. He was
an Inductee to the IRAWMA
Hall of Fame/Lifetime Award,
and a recipient of “TheReggae50”,
Award. Mr. Ephraim
Martin, President of Martin's
International and the producer
for the annual IRAWMA, said
"This is one of the biggest losses
in the reggae community in
— 64 —
the last ten years.” Since the
1980s, he captured several of
our IRAWMAs, through the
years. As we were preparing for
the 37th IRAWMA at the Pegasus
Hotel, where we presented
him with his Reggae50 honor.
While sitting at lunch, he
said to me, "you have to get me
back to the Festival of Life in
Chicago," I promised him that
I would work on it; but unfortunately,
that was not to be. U-
Roy to me was like more than
a friend, he was like a big brother
whenever we spoke. He was
loved by all in the music industry,
and, he will be missed by
all.
