Cost <strong>of</strong> Living<br />

The estimated cost <strong>of</strong> living per month for a single student in the Kuala Lumpur is<br />

between RM RM1,000 – RM 1,500 per month with the following breakdown:<br />

Accommodation<br />

Accommodation RM500 – RM600 (sharing)<br />

Food RM300 – RM400<br />

Allowances RM500<br />

Miscellaneous RM200<br />

On-campus residential with double or triple-sharing rooms <strong>and</strong> communal facilities are<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered at minimal fees. For those who prefer to stay <strong>of</strong>f-campus, there are various types<br />

<strong>of</strong> private residential to choose from in the campus vicinity. The rental rates vary<br />

according to the types <strong>of</strong> housing <strong>and</strong> their proximity to campus.<br />

Health insurance<br />

Students are advised to have adequate medical insurance coverage especially for<br />

hospitalization cases. Nonetheless, treatment for minor illnesses with minimal fees<br />

charged can be obtained at the Students’ Health Clinic. There are also several types <strong>of</strong><br />

health insurance made available by local insurance company.<br />

Extracurricular Activities <strong>and</strong> International Exchange Activities<br />

For the full benefit <strong>of</strong> their stay at UM, students are encouraged to participate in activities<br />

organized by student clubs or associations. A wide range <strong>of</strong> student activities are<br />

organized at the residential hall <strong>and</strong> university levels. The Student Affairs Division <strong>of</strong> the<br />

university oversees all activities by student organizations <strong>and</strong> societies.<br />
