Cost of Living
The estimated cost of living per month for a single student in the Kuala Lumpur is
between RM RM1,000 – RM 1,500 per month with the following breakdown:
Accommodation
Accommodation RM500 – RM600 (sharing)
Food RM300 – RM400
Allowances RM500
Miscellaneous RM200
On-campus residential with double or triple-sharing rooms and communal facilities are
offered at minimal fees. For those who prefer to stay off-campus, there are various types
of private residential to choose from in the campus vicinity. The rental rates vary
according to the types of housing and their proximity to campus.
Health insurance
Students are advised to have adequate medical insurance coverage especially for
hospitalization cases. Nonetheless, treatment for minor illnesses with minimal fees
charged can be obtained at the Students’ Health Clinic. There are also several types of
health insurance made available by local insurance company.
Extracurricular Activities and International Exchange Activities
For the full benefit of their stay at UM, students are encouraged to participate in activities
organized by student clubs or associations. A wide range of student activities are
organized at the residential hall and university levels. The Student Affairs Division of the
university oversees all activities by student organizations and societies.
