All STAFF,
The University of Malaya.

Greetings and very warm wishes to all. I write this note to record the
Management’s deep
appreciation to all staff who has throughout the years contributed towards
the excellence
of UM. This hardwork by all has recently placed UM in the 39th position
among all Asian
universities. Congratulations and thank you all.
However, I wish to kindly draw the attention of all staff to the
fundamental direction of
UM now which is towards placing itself in the Top 200 World’s Best within 2
years and Top
100 within the next 5 years. In this regard, my office has recently
circulated the
Standard Academic Performance Target that is now enforced which will serve
as a guide for
university wide academic staff performance.
I trust the whole university community understands the great importance of
focusing all
efforts towards achieving true ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE in UM, especially in
Quality Research
and Publication. Gone are the days when we can pride on our past laurels;
the real world
today is all about stiff competition and high performance. We should
realize that the
playing field today is crowded with competitors who are fully awake and
actively in the
move to overtake us. As such every single staff member of this university
community must
be in full swing to gear themselves towards meeting individual KPIs and
stretching the
KPIs annually to stay ahead of our competitors.
The Management of UM is entirely committed towards assisting all staff
(especially
academics) to perform to their very best to produce maximum results. We are
always
thinking of various initiatives and incentives to create the best possible
